Host nation Morocco secure place in 2025 Africa Cup of Nations

(MENAFN) Host nation Morocco secured a place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final after defeating Nigeria in a penalty shootout following a 0-0 draw on Wednesday. Neither side managed to score during regular or extra time, leading the contest to be decided from the spot at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Morocco’s Atlas Lions triumphed 4-2 in the shootout, with goalkeeper Yassine Bounou making two crucial saves to deny Nigeria’s Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi. Hamza Igamane was the only Moroccan player to miss his penalty.

The victory sets up a final clash between Morocco and Senegal, scheduled for Sunday at the same stadium, where the host nation will aim to lift the coveted AFCON trophy.
